Who can participate?

Are you a university-level student or graduate? A young professional?  Have you studied Design, Architecture, Law, Construction, Medicine, Media and Communication, Science, Water Management, Engineering, Arts, Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, Agriculture, Translations, Cultural Science or Sociology? If so, then you are eligible to participate in our European program!

How and when do I have to apply?

Registration with internscout.com is possible year-round; however, be aware that because the demand for internships is greater than supply, you must enroll in our program at least 4 to 5 months before you plan on starting your internship. This allows time to find not only a suitable internship, but one that works best for your specific needs. A general piece of advice: the sooner you enroll before the internship start date, the more time we are able to dedicate to finding you the internship most suitable for your needs.

Are the internships paid?

Internships in Europe are usually not paid. Some companies may give financial compensation to cover accommodation fees or trip expenses; however, this is not often the case. You have to forecast your own financial resources to support your stay in the host country (accommodation, costs of living). Consider, though, the value of living and working abroad and the opportunities and advantages such an experience will afford.

How long does the internship last?

The internship must last a minimum of 8 weeks. European companies favor longer internships as foreign applicants usually need more time to get used to the company. The more flexible you are, the better your chances are!

What about accommodation?

If you would like, we will support you in the search for suitable accommodation and also give you tips for travel preparation to Europe. We can advise you on different types of accommodation and provide you with information on the least expensive possibilities. We also include addresses of accommodations to which you can refer.
Please consider that housing costs are not included in the organization fee.

In which country / cities will I be placed?

Internship opportunites are located within countries and cities from which we receive offers.

Are traveling costs, insurance and accommodation included in the price?

The fees for your flight, insurance, accommodations, and eventual language courses are not included in our price and must be handled separately. We recommend that all trainees acquire sufficient insurance protection for accidents, health issues, disability, death and liability cases for the length of their stay in Europe. Since it is impossible to predict  misfortune, proper insurance is crucial.

What should I know about bank accounts?

Open an account.
It is usually very easy to open an account in Europe, and the whole process can be completed in less than one hour. You can be done in half to one hour. Nevertheless, before opening an account, you should gather information about account types, and should visit different banks. Certain banks may have plans that fit your needs better. There are basically 3 types of accounts that may interest you:
- Checking account: The main use of this account is to deposit any payment given by the employer to pay for rent, food, etc.
- Money Market account: This type of account has better interest rates but often requires a minimum investment.
Even if you only have a checking account, you can generally get checks and a debit card.
Beware of account carrying fees!
Pay special attention to fees linked to services. You can usually get accounts with low or almost nonexistent fees as long as you respect certain requirements (i.e. maintain a minimum account balance). Check different banks to find out where the fees are waived.
Opening an account
– What do you need? Generally, you will need to provide your name, date of birth, proof of residence, and some banking information that your bank at home can provide. The residence abroad is not a problem for banks in Europe
– The bank information will be sent to your temporary address in the country. You should have a passport in hand to identify yourself.
Credit card
We recommend you to get a credit card from your bank, usable abroad. Talk with your bank before your departure to subscribe to this feature if needed. You may also want to review with your bank the fees on each transaction done abroad, the maximum withdrawal amount, etc. The use of credit cards in Europe is very common.

How do I get around in my host country?

Some of our partners provide a vehicle for our trainees. But this is not a common rule and you shouldn’t rely on it. Generally all large European cities are however equipped with a good public transportation network, including bus, trolley, underground and train. Your mobility between your job, your accommodation and all important places within your city is thus ensured. The public transportations in between major cities in Europe is good. But if you are planning to travel and estimate that the public transportation doesn’t correspond to your needs, you can always rent a car.The booking of car rentals can be done either in the country, by phone or by internet. Prices vary significantly from EU countries and where the rental company is located in the country.Traffic rulesTraffic rules are very similar across Europe. Nethertheless you should pay particular attention to the driving differences: in France, yield to right, in the UK, left-hand drive, etc.

What are the visa requirements?

Requirements for a visa vary amongst the respective EU members. However, the process of getting a visa as a student for an internship tends to be fairly easy. In any case, a valid passport is mandatory.
Note: internscout.com will help you to gather the required documentation to work legally in your chosen EU country. According to your destination and your nationality, you may need a residence permit and/or a working permit. Contact us for more information.
